"Childhood's whispers"

Share

The beginning of this year's holiday can be considered successful. I have behind me my own little automotive success – a nice trip to the scenic Masuria Lakes. I finally have some time to read a book in peace. The peace is illusory and I will probably have to visit the eye doctor soon because of being cross-eyed Mrugnięcie (I am spending the time with my friend and her and my children), but it is still better than during the school year.

I waited with great impatience for Anna Sakowicz's new book. I have already read her two previous novels - surprising and sometimes absurd but amazing stories from the volume "Yellow pillow", and warm female prose written with imagination and humor: "Thief of Dreams". I had no doubt that the next book would be equally good. I was not disappointed.

"Childhood's whispers" is a mature, measured and well composed kitchen sink novel. The world painted in this book's pages is very realistic, sometimes even naturalistic and the heroes are authentic. The main hero, Barbara, is a typical woman, mother, wife and daughter dealing with the greyness of daily life. She has been carrying a burden from her difficult childhood, which almost invisibly but consistently influences her adult life. The book is not easy and reading it gives you the full spectrum of emotions, from anger, sadness and sympathy to affection and joy. Despite the serious content, the book is not lacking funny and absurd episodes written in the great, characteristic style of the author.

I hope that Anna Sakowicz will not ask us to wait too long for her next book. Thanks to her, I have on my shelf another book which will stay for a long time in my thoughts and heart.
