There is a big age difference between me and my siblings. When I was out with my friends, my sister was still in a pushchair biting on a small rubber duck. I remember one summer when my mum prepared homemade kissel with seasonal fruit for my sister. Even though I thought I was an adult, I asked if I could have some too.

Recently, my son reminded me about this simple and very tasty dessert. Taking advantage of the currant season, I decided to include some in the dish and return to my childhood. You can eat kissel hot or cold. I like putting a bit of sweet vanilla fromage frais on it, but it is excellent without anything added.

Ingredients (for 4 people)
0.5kg of mixed redcurrants and blackcurrants
6-7 tablespoons of brown sugar
350ml of water
3 tablespoons of potato flour
4 tablespoons of vanilla fromage frais

Who wouldn't like to be happy? If we ask ten people what happiness means to them, apart from obvious things like a healthy family and world peace, everybody will say something different. For one person it could be a family dinner in the country, for another a fishing trip, or sunbathing on a white beach under a palm tree with a cocktail, or skiing on a glacier. There are as many people as there are ideas for what to do to feel happy. Just feel... Could happiness be a permanent status? Would we then appreciate the little moments which make us want to shout and sometimes affect us in such a way that we don't know whether we are closer to laughter or tears?

That's why I think there isn't one recipe for happiness. Reaching for the book "Hygge the Danish art of happiness" by Marie Tourell Soderberg, I wasn't under the delusion that I would find there a recipe, like in a cookery book, for what to do to be happy. I got it out of curiosity and I paged through it with pleasure. I say "page through" because there isn't a lot of text, so this small book with beautiful pictures is just nice to look at.

Hygge doesn't have one definition, but generally speaking it refers to the moments which affect us positively, filling us with calm, pleasure, maybe joy – when we are in consonance with ourselves and the surrounding world. Sometimes we know that we feel hygge during a meeting with friends at home where everybody feels comfortable, where every guest has their own favourite place on the sofa and a cup of tea always awaits us. Hygge can be an interesting book, a warm blanket and a glass of wine after a long, busy day. We try to perform our small rituals to feel good. But hygge may happen by chance, here and now, when we feel that this moment could go on and on... Maybe during a hot summer afternoon with a cup of coffee and a close friend; maybe in the calm evening when we read book to our children; maybe on an empty beach watching the sunset arm in arm with a sweetheart; or maybe alone in the garden in a hammock with a glass of stewed rhubarb?

At the Polish seaside you can eat anything you like: fish and seafood, pizza, hamburgers, creps, dumplings, sushi, and tasty homemade dinners. When we visit a small town for the first time and we don't have any favourite restaurants, we visit the places which somebody has tried already and evaluated and recommended. Obviously, we may have different tastes and expectations, and this way of choosing could be unsuccessful, but in Jastrzębia Góra the internet users' opinions didn't let us down.

We came across the tavern "U Rybaka" ('At the Fisherman's place' ). Right after our first dinner we knew it was a success, and we stayed faithful to "U Rybaka" ('At the Fisherman' ) until the end of our stay in Jastrzębia Góra. We didn't eat there every day, but for a few days we tried some of the yummy dishes.

At dinnertime the long queue of hungry vacationers waiting for a free table may be off-putting. For me it was a sign of the quality of the food in the restaurant. The tavern has a lot of seats and the nice staff efficiently steer you towards free tables. If you are patient and wait for a few minutes you won't be disappointed.

There is something for everybody on the menu. We focused on fish, but if somebody doesn't like it, they may also eat a tasty dinner. There are meat dishes, traditional soups, pasta dishes, dumplings and salads. The herring starters and steak tartare with salmon were our first choice. Both of them were excellent. The herring dish was so big that we were all able to try it.
